From ballet to contemporary styles, our Fall Into Step series showcases a diverse range of performances from talented dancers and choreographers. Each show will take you on a journey through the art form while captivating your senses and igniting your passion for movement.

9/11: Portals: Doors to Black Past and Futures

This multidisciplinary dance work, presented by artist and choreographer, Kendra J. Bostock, looks at everyday items in our lives that serve as portals to Black past, present and Afro-future. Bostock transports us across generations using her Sankofa process, inspired by the Ghanaian Akan term for “looking back to move forward.” Kendra J. Bostock is a proud Detroit native working as a dancer, teaching artist, choreographer, arts administrator, facilitator, and community organizer in her current home, Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

9/18: Gamelan Dharma Swara

One of the leading Balinese gamelan and dance groups in the United States, Gamelan Dharma Swara has performed at renowned NYC music venues including Le Poisson Rouge, Symphony Space, Joe’s Pub, Roulette, and BAM. Most recently, they performed at National Sawdust as part of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Du Yun’s Pan-Asian Sounding Festival. Their performance in The Commons will include 3 traditional dancers and 2 musicians. (Pictured above.)

9/25: Urban Bush Women Diaspora

Join us as we continue to celebrate Urban Bush Women’s 40th Anniversary at home in Brooklyn, NY with an afternoon of curated performances showcasing the talent and creativity within the UBW community. Featuring groundbreaking NYC artists, this midweek lunchtime concert promises an inspiring blend of dance and live music; hosted by Co-Artistic Director Chanon Judson.

For decades, UBW has been a champion and supporter of BIPOC women+ dance makers and artists. This event is a testament to our ongoing commitment to uplifting and celebrating diverse voices in the arts. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the power and beauty of performances by some of the most dynamic artists in New York City.
